EOS is secured independently. Loom depends entirely on security of the main Ethereum chain as anything stored on loom can be confiscated by the main chain settlement and thus has no reliable security mechanism of its own. In effect, loom childchains are basically a modified small lightning network that for some reason chose to slow itself down with an additional blockchain and having to update main chain continuously whereas lightning doesn’t need to do that. It’s truly the worst of both worlds.
